Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is a comprehensive federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity. One of the major functions of Title IX is to prohibit sexual misconduct (including rape and assault) and sexual harassment in schools and universities.
